Sable Paint · Last updated 7 September 2026

Sable Paint is a desktop painting application for Windows and macOS. It is built to work offline. This page lists every case in which the app talks to the network and what is sent.

What we do not collect

Sable Paint has no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no account system. Your paintings, brushes, and settings stay on your computer. We never see them, and nothing you make is used to train anything, by us or by anyone else. See No Generative AI.

Update check

On launch, and when you choose Help › Check for Updates, the app downloads a small version manifest from GitHub (github.com/stephen82818/sable-releases). This is an ordinary HTTPS download. GitHub receives your IP address as with any web request. No identifier is sent by the app.

Licence activation

If you buy a licence and enter a key, the app contacts Polar (polar.sh), our payment and licensing provider, to activate and later to re-validate the key. The request contains the licence key, an activation ID Polar assigns, and your computer's name so you can tell your devices apart in your Polar customer portal. Purchases are handled entirely by Polar under its own privacy policy; Sable Paint never receives your payment details. You can free a device seat at any time from Help › License › Deactivate.

Discord Rich Presence

If Discord is running on the same computer, Sable Paint can show "Painting in Sable Paint" as your Discord activity. This uses Discord's local connection on your machine; the app sends Discord the activity text only, never your artwork. It is inactive when Discord is not running. To turn it off, set the environment variable SABLE_NO_DISCORD before launching.

Sharing an image

Sharing an image to a Discord channel happens only when you explicitly choose to, using a webhook URL you provide. Nothing is uploaded otherwise.

Data stored on your computer

Settings, brush presets, and the cached licence state live in your user profile (on Windows, %APPDATA%\Sable). Uninstalling the app leaves this folder so your presets survive a reinstall; delete it yourself if you want it gone.

Children

Sable Paint collects no personal data and is suitable for all ages.

Changes

If a future version adds any network feature, this page will be updated before that version ships.
